LTUHC wins Sports Club of the Year at Blues Award


La Trobe University Hockey Club was awarded the 2024 Sports Club of the Year at the La Trobe University Blues Award. This award acknowledges the club who has been outstanding in representing La Trobe University both within the university and the community.

On top of on field performances, particularly Stand Out Cup, A Grade, and Men’s 3s Premiership, the club had a highly productive year off field.

The club developed a number of initiatives to help us recruit more players for an additional men’s and women’s team – bucking the trend in community sport post-COVID.

The club’s diversity and inclusion program set the standard around Victoria, which the club celebrating Women’s, Pride, NAIDOC & Men’s Health Rounds.

The club’s Summer Competition saw 140 players hit our pitch over the summer in a social environment which enabled players of all standards to play hockey and to enjoy the sport.

On top of this, we were able to train and upskill players in a more relaxed environment and also run our umpire development program.

The club was involved in numerous La Trobe University events and activities and we were visible present all year.

Club President Phil Nguyen accepted the award on behalf of the club at the Blues Award.

“We are proud to win this award and it is great to be acknowledged for our efforts on making our club a club for everyone, no matter their hockey ability, who they are and people can come here and be who they want to be.”
